Candy Thieves

I got quite a surprise when I got to work this morning. N had to call off because one of her kids was sick so I had to work with Screech Owl. Ugh. The morning was ok, it went by pretty fast really. We had people drop off all kinds of goodies. We get lunch on Wednesdays and today it was a woman that just annoys the crap out of me. I know that's really not that hard to do but man. Our break room is shaped really funny so it's small when it comes to trying to get a number of people in there to eat. We can fit about 6 people at the table but its going to be pretty tight.

We go back to eat and this annoying woman has all her shit all over the end of the table. Its very obvious that we don't have much space to work with. She was nice enough to take up two spaces. One person even had to put her lunch in her lap to eat. I dropped a few settle hints about being able to eat at the table and it just didn't sink in. This woman talked the entire time I was sitting there. Nonstop. I couldn't take anymore and had to get up and leave the room. Normally I don't mind the reps that come in and in fact there are a few I love but not this woman.

The afternoon got rolling along and we slowly come to the conclusion that someone has stolen a box of candy from the breakroom. None of the patients go back there and after much questioning and thinking this or that person had put it somewhere we think we solved the crime. The lady that delivered our lunch from Fridays hijacked our box of Ester Price candy. Who does that?!?! We weren't mad or anything just kind of dumbfounded. A box of candy? Really???

Free Tuesday

The weather today was gross but it is Ohio. I would have rather stayed in bed but I got up and did some running. My first stop was the video store to rent The Dark Knight. I had enough credit at the store that it paid for the movie. Very good movie. I thought Heath did a great job. You totally forget it that it's him. I ran into an old friend too. When I say old I mean we were bffs in grade school. We lived across the street from each other and talked about how we had both thought of the dance we made to Superfreak. Yeah we knew Rick James before Dave Chapelle.

After that I headed off to lunch with a friend. We had made plans to get in touch this morning with a time and place. I called her and it went straight to voice mail. I didn't think too much of it and just started to drive her direction. I get to her town and try to call her again, same thing. At this point I am getting irritated. I drove 30 minutes and I am starving so I didn't know to forget her and do the couple of things I wanted to do, grab lunch and take it back home or go hunt her down. I opted for the later. I was still irritated because she lives on the other side of town from where I was from. I get to her house and shes still asleep (she works third shift). After she wakes up and I ask her if we are doing lunch she informs me she's broke. Thats really nice thanks for letting me know that BEFORE I drove all the way over here. She decides to call her daughter and see if she can borrow some money and after she changes we're off. Instead of her driving her own car she wants to ride with me. I don't mind but then I have to drive AGAIN to the other side of town. Grrr.

We went to a new place that I had gift certificate for and I got pretzel bites (YUM) and chicken chunks (so so). It was ok I can't say that it will be my first choice next time but this time it was FREE! After we had lunch we ran over to Stone Cold Creamery so I could pick up a cake that I had a certificate for. I had never had one of their cakes so I picked Peanut Butter Playground. It's soooooooooooo good. And I got a little thing of dark chocolate peppermint. I couldn't help myself. I then drove to the other side of town, again, to drop her off and was on my way home.

I talked to C about the funeral Friday. The doctor who owns the practice can't take a stand on what he wants to do, close the office all day or half the day. The funeral is at noon and it will take about 30 minutes to get there from work. I would work the morning but is it really even worth it to see patients for 2 hours? It's a mess. I will be glad when it's settled.

Not so bad

Today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Screech Owl of course got all teary and gushy when we were talking about D but she didn't get too worked up. We were all down of course. I think the office is actually going to shut down for her funeral. I wasn't sure but seeing as how everyone wants to go there doesn't seem much choice.

I wanted to get up a little early today so I could eat some breakfast. I did get up a few minutes early but not enough. I drank coffee and didn't eat anything. Bad move on my part I know better. When I do this I end up feeling gross all morning.

It's the office managers birthday tomorrow so she brought in lunch. It was "some kind of stew". It sat in a crock pot in the break room all morning stewing. It had beef, tomatoes, onions, corn, green beans and who knows what else. I was not interested so thankfully I had forgotten she was bring in lunch and had brought my own. After lunch I had the pleasure of being stuck on the phone with someone who basically talked in circles for 10 minutes. I told him I did what I could but if he needed something else I could help him but the circles started again. He was nasty and rude and finally hung up on me. Bastard.

Thats about all the excitement I can handle in one day. Gossip Girl calls.

Rainy days and Mondays...

I am not looking forward to tomorrow. Not that I ever look forward to Monday mornings but I don't think tomorrow is going to be fun at all.

The office manager at work had been in contact with the family of my sick coworker. It was very limited contact due to the fact that the family was at the hospital most of the time so we weren't sure we could go see her for sure. With the hospital being about an hour away we didn't want to make a trip for nothing. Friday night C and I decided we wanted to go and I got info for visiting hours. We had a plan to go Saturday. C called me and said the office manager called her and said D passed away Friday night. I was bummed I wasn't able to get down there to see her but the woman had been through hell. She's at rest now in a better place and I am okay with that.

I imagine emotions are going to be running high tomorrow. I can understand that but I dread Screech Owls reaction. She's so freaking dramatic about the stupidest shit anyway so I can't imagine what she's going to be like. I got to remember to take my medication in the morning.

Untittled

I have no idea what to even call this post hence the title. One of my coworkers is in the hospital. She started working at the office over a year ago. She's got a good sense of humor and is fun to work with. In the past she's had cancer twice and beat it. A few months ago it came back for a third visit. She was doing really good just taking what came along but you could see it slowly wearing her down. The office manager asked if she wanted to take some time off and she cut back her hours but she didn't want to stop working. I guess she enjoyed being around our goofy asses.

A couple weeks ago the time finally came when she just didn't have the energy to work. Some of us tried to get in touch with her but she went to stay at her moms house. Her mom called on Tuesday to let the office manager know she was in the icu and her organs were starting to shut down. Thats pretty much all we know. Our office manager is going to go to the hospital tomorrow to see how things are. I wonder if she's awake or if she knows whats going on. Tonight I have tried really hard to think about the last time I saw her. Did we laugh? Did she have a good time? Did I make sure to say goodbye when we left for home? I hate having all these questions and no answers to them. I do know that we had quite a few good times and made some good memories.

Old Lady Down

I really meant to keep up with this when I started it. I have slacked. So here is a blog. Hurrah!

Today should have been Monday. I woke up thinking my alarm hadn't gone off yet but it had and I had turned it off. Thankfully I didn't have to be to work till 9 so I wasn't running late. I pull into the garage at work and there is this little old lady sitting in the middle of the drive. I stop the car and get out to help her. Rather than walk on the sidewalk she was walking in the isle and tripped over the speed bump. Two other woman came up and the three of us helped the little old lady up. She was fine and just shuffled off toward the door on a mission.

The patients weren't too crazy today. We had a girl come in and wanted to go on the pill. She left with a whole lot more than she bargained for. I felt really bad because she was really upset. I like her a lot and a few of us just wanted to hug her.

Today was free lunch. The rep that brought it kinda gets on my nerves. He brought some different stuff from Tumbleweed. I had a chimi. The rest of the afternoon was pretty uneventful. We were busy and the "newest" receptionist who has been there three months still doesn't have a clue nor does she have my fist prints on her forehead. Its been hard, very hard.

After work I stopped at Meijer with C to get a cap. She was raving about their candy cane cap so we both headed over after work. It wasn't bad. I can't say I loved it. I really didn't love the fact that there was a lid malfunction and I pretty much wore as much as I drank on the way home. Thank god it wasn't boiling hot by the time I took a big drink.

Thats all I have for today. I am going to finish watching Private Practice then Estate Of Panic.

Thursday, Friday rolled into one!

Not much that I can remember happened Thursday. We were busy but nowhere near where we had been. This morning however was hell yet again.

The other day and today I had to call a patient who had one of those ring back things. I don't even know if thats what they are really called. You know when you call someone and instead of hearing ringing they are nice enough to pay for you to listen to a song. Well this patient went above and beyond the call of duty. I dial the number and then got to listen to I'm Proud to be an American by Lee Greenwood. I didn't know if I should laugh or puke. Don't get me wrong I am patriotic and all that jazz but words can't begin to express how much I hate that song. I would have rather her ring be nails on a chalkboard. Now that I think about it I don't know what would have been worse, actually talking to the woman or having to hear that song. Hmmm.

Another thing about work is what people can get away with. We have a few receptionists and 2 actually have it together and know what they are doing. Then there are the 3 who do not. One of the three has been there over 5 years. She has no idea what multitasking is. She thinks her job is to sit up there and answer the phone. Thats it. No checking in patients, filing or anything else. She stays and gets overtime after everyone leaves doing god knows what. They don't get rid of her or make her accountable because they feel sorry for her. The second of the three has been there a little over a year. She has become sick in the past few months and went down to part time. She wants to keep working for something to do but the problem with that is she comes to work and sits and watches other people work. So basically the person who works with her has to do the work of two people. The office manager suggested maybe she take some leave and she said she didn't want to. I can respect that but lets not put all her work on other people and stress them out. The third woman is new. She's been there about 3 months. She's an idiot. One of those people that you tell something to over and over and she acts like she's never heard it each time. She's also one of the people I want to punch repeatedly.

Ok enough bitching about work for tonight.

Work kicked my ass

On Wednesdays I work with N. We work well together and she actually works unlike a lot of people in that office. We kick ass and we take names. Except for today. No matter what we did we couldn't keep up. There were stacks of charts and messages and prescriptions but we never got a chance to sit down and do them until after 5.

We gave flu shots like crazy, had a few blood draws but then this afternoon we had 3 well baby checks. The mother of the one baby never shows up for the appointments. I would say she shows up maybe one time out of five. The baby had an appointment at 2. 2 came and went with no sign of the baby. We weren't shocked. It's 3 and the moms at the window. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat??!! She's an hour late and we had another well baby check at that time. So we took the baby back but she didn't get seen till after the people who were on time were seen. She was there about 2 hours. The office manager asked her if she realized she was an hour late and the mom said well I couldn't remember what time the appointment was so I just came in. Um she made the appointment today!!! Blah shes a dumbass.

So mind you the office was nuts today and it was very obvious. So whats the office manager do? She runs out around 11 because she has a hair appointment. She was gone for a good 2 hours. Then she was gone way before 5. Mind you she's an RN and she knows how to work front and back office. Did she offer to help? Hell no! But its ok for us to be there till after 7. It kills me how the doctor who owns the practice is all about saving money but he has quite a few people who get paid for doing nothing.

Lazy Bastard

Thats pretty much what I was today. I got up early but didn't really do anything. I watched some tv, learned some tricks on the sidekick and took a nap. I thought I would try and see if my dvr was going to be ok instead of hauling it back to Time Warner, bad idea on my part. It only taped part of Ellen and now it's booting up again because it's stuck on stupid. I am thisclose to booting it out the window.

Monday

Real original title I know. I hate Mondays. The weekends over and they are always busy. Extra busy when the person you work with doesn't really like to get off her ass. Not once but twice this afternoon she was MIA for at least 15 minutes. I was of course bitching hard there was a lot of work to do. After the patients left I think she did like one chart and another older nurse that works there came in and started talking to her so that slowed her down even more. I hate working with her.

Thats all I got today. I am pretty sure this is what Monday blogs are going to look like.

Just The Begining

So here I am on blogger. Some friends started to blog here and I jumped on the bandwagon. Be prepared for a lot of complaining about work. Tomorrow is Monday so I am sure there will be lots tomorrow.
